Glad you asked! Let’s take a sneak peak inside your local Mathnasium of Athens and ask their instructors!
Q: What helps students in your center stay motivated?
A: Students in my center are often motivated by my instructors who provide a wonderful experience for them whenever they enter the center. Additionally, my students are motivated by our fun reward cabinet and all the prizes they can earn in our center. This year, we have started to enact a fun calendar every month that students are able to participate in. We've had Popcorn Day, Double Punch Sundays, and LEGO Saturday to name a few!
Q: Tell us about the reward cabinet!
A: Our reward cabinet has a smaller cabinet with candy in it that is worth a maximum of 5 punch cards. Our larger cabinet has board games, plushies, video games, an XBox/Playstation, LEGO sets of all kinds, and smaller item rewards such as Funko pops and Tech Decks.
Q: How do students earn prizes from the reward cabinet?
A: Students earn prizes from the reward cabinet by completing Prescriptives and Mastery Checks in our center! Every Prescriptive page they complete is worth one punch and every Mastery Check is worth 4 punches in addition to an opportunity to spin the prize wheel that has additional prizes such as additional punches, additional punch cards, a reward from our prize bin, and play a game with an instructor.
Q: How does your center celebrate student success?
A: We celebrate our student's success by showcasing a Brag Board of student achievements in their math class on quizzes or tests. We also celebrate their 100% on a test or quiz by entering them in a $100 gift card for 100% on a quiz/test drawing!
Q: What is your favorite student success story?
A: My favorite student success story would have to be one of our younger students. She came to us with very little mastery of numerical fluency and often counted with her fingers rather than knowing certain facts about numbers. Now, she can double numbers and take half of odd numbers up to 25 with little to no guidance! She used to use the clock to help her add as well and is now remembering little tricks to add her numbers such as up to and over 10 or doubles +/-1. She went from being in a small resource classroom in school to now being able to keep up with her 2nd grade peers. She is a sweetheart and has improved tremendously during her time with us!
