From Reluctance to Confidence

At Mathnasium of Dadeland, nothing makes us happier than seeing a student’s confidence blossom and their relationship with math completely transform. That’s why we are so grateful for this heartfelt review from an excited parent who shared their daughter’s journey with us. What began as reluctance and resistance turned into excitement, confidence, and even joy—all because she discovered that math doesn’t have to be intimidating. With the encouragement of our team, and yes, a little inspiration from our reward cabinet, she found a safe space to grow and succeed at her own pace.

“My 8 year old daughter struggles with math and constantly finds excuses to avoid it. When I first suggested Mathnasium, she flat-out refused to go, so I went alone and met Sean and Jimmy. They were wonderful, explaining their approach and reward system. I took a picture of their prize cabinet to show her at home, hoping that would get her to visit and it worked. When she saw the picture, her eyes lit up and she said, “Can you take me there just to see it, but not to do any math?” And so I did exactly that. She fell in love with the prize cabinet and felt comfortable with Sean and Jimmy. They cleverly completed the assessment in a way that didn’t feel like “doing math,” and when we left, she asked “Can I come back tomorrow?” What a relief! This wasn’t me forcing her, this was her choosing to go.

Two months in, she now goes twice a week, her confidence has skyrocketed, and she has me pretending to be a Mathnasium instructor at home. I know it hasn’t been very long, but the change in her confidence, her willingness to do math, and even her excitement to go to sessions is a huge breakthrough.

The instructors she has had so far (Liam, Nayah, Jacob, and Ashley) have been able to get through to her in ways that no one else has. They are very knowledgeable, patient, supportive, and they truly know how to connect with kids. My daughter really enjoys being with them. They have a very challenging job and do it extremely well! I deeply appreciate their dedication and positive impact they have on her. The other day she said she loves math and I almost fainted. I’m very excited to see how this progress carries into the school year and I look forward to continuing this relationship for years to come.

Thank you to the entire team at Mathnasium Dadeland!!!”

We love this story because it encapsulates what we strive to do every single day: meet students where they are, make learning math engaging, and create an environment where kids feel supported and motivated. We are thankful for this family’s trust and excited to keep cheering their daughter on as she continues her math journey!
