Helping Kids Start School with Confidence at Mathnasium of Greensboro

Aug 15, 2025 | Greensboro

Q1: What are some ways your center is helping students prepare for the school year - whether it’s refreshing core skills, boosting confidence, or tackling new grade-level content?

A:
We've been helping students bridge between last year's and this year's material as they change grade levels. We review the skills required for both levels, identify any weak areas, and preview new skills coming up. We have helped students identify their own goals and how to work towards reaching them, as well.

Q2: Can you share a quick success story about a student who feels more ready for school after coming to your center?

A:
One of our students recently requested a review of adding and subtracting integers (+/- numbers) since she learned them in 7th grade and is now going into 9th grade. After using our materials, she has the confidence and understanding she needs to use this skill in algebra this year.

Q3: What would you tell parents who are worried their child isn’t ready for math this school year?

A:
It is always helpful to review skip counting, doubling, and addition/subtraction (for K-2nd grade) and multiplication/division facts (3rd grade and up) any chance you get. Just take 5 minutes and focus on a different fact family each day. A great opportunity is anytime you are in the car. Developing the numerical fluency for these grades enables students to access this information quickly and builds their confidence.
