The best games for this are what educators call "low-floor, high-ceiling." Easy enough for anyone to start playing, deep enough to keep a curious mind engaged for years.

Every child has asked some version of the question, “When am I ever going to use this?” The honest answer is: constantly. The problem is that traditional math teaching rarely ties to the real world in an obvious way.

At the grocery store, ask them to estimate the total before you reach the register, or figure out which size of cereal is actually the better deal.

Strategy 3: Praise the Process, Not the Answer
