This Week's Steam Workshops (6/18/24)

Jun 18, 2024 | Warrenton

This week, students kicked things off by learning about the four color theorem with our Geospatial Information Systems expert, Elizabeth. We colored maps of all sizes, including a map of Fauquier with only 4 colors without any of the colors touching! Then, Edward came back this week to help us build roller coasters for marbles! We then wrapped up the week by exercising with Ms. Brown, a sports scientist. She's worked all over the world in sports events from up in England to down in New Zealand! Keep an eye out for next week where we will make pasta, compete in a paper bridge competition, and code our own video games!

Check out this link to build a paper ball run with the knowledge you gained from marble coasters!

This week's experts are Elizabeth, Eric, and Ms. Brown!

Elizabeth is a senior at William & Mary majoring in International Relations and minoring in data science. She loves all things GIS! After taking a GIS class, she fell in love with the system, and the people at the GIS lab. She currently works as a GIS teaching assistant and makes maps in her free time too! For those interested in GIS, Elizabeth suggests checking out the GIS office in Fauquier!

Edward got started in STEM in high school where he joined a competitive Robotics club. This ignited his interest in electronics and he is now studying Electrical Engineering. . Edward's biggest piece of advice for students is if you see someone doing something that interests you, ask them about it! You never know where that could take you.
