Meet the Team at Mathnasium of Collingwood

Mary

Mary is pursuing a degree in Mathematics at the University of British Columbia and brings several years of tutoring experience to Mathnasium. She has worked with students from elementary school through university, helping them develop confidence and curiosity in math. Her passion for teaching was inspired by professors who believed in her abilities and encouraged her to do the same for others. 

Mary values connection as the foundation of learning. She believes math can be both exciting and empowering when taught with patience and creativity, and she enjoys seeing her students grow into confident, independent thinkers. 

Megan

Megan is a student in the Faculty of Science at the University of British Columbia, where her love of learning continues to grow. Her volunteer work with children inspired her to help students overcome their fear of math and discover the fun in problem-solving. She brings patience, creativity, and enthusiasm to every lesson. 

At Mathnasium, Megan focuses on building students’ confidence alongside their skills. She believes every child learns differently and takes pride in helping them reach those “aha” moments where everything clicks and learning becomes joyful. 

Anh

Anh is currently a Science student at the Simon Fraser University. She has always been inspired by her Math teachers to explore more about the subject and she also wishes to share this passion with other younger students. She hopes all the students can be confident in Math and have fun learning it.

Gui

A computer scientist with a huge love for teaching and a long road cultivating love for math in students. With his energetic and mathematic love, he shares his knowledge and experience with anyone interested.

Jayson

Jayson is a dedicated student with a strong drive to master and deeply understand every topic he engages with. He approaches tutoring with a balance of passion and clarity, creating a supportive and focused learning environment. Jayson believes that every student has the ability to grow when given the right guidance and encouragement. This belief motivates him to go beyond simply teaching the “what,” placing equal importance on helping students understand the “why” behind each concept.

Billy

Billy studies Business at the University of British Columbia and has passed the CFA Level I exam, reflecting a strong foundation in accounting and analytical thinking. He focuses on helping students understand concepts clearly by breaking problems into simple, structured steps. His patient and organized teaching style helps students build confidence, accuracy, and long-term problem-solving skills.

Andrea

Andrea is currently studying Bioinformatics at Langara College, where she enjoys exploring how mathematical concepts connect with biological data. She has a strong interest in logic puzzles, reflecting her love for problem-solving and analytical thinking. While her academic and professional interests are rooted in math and science, her hobbies lean toward the creative side—she enjoys crocheting and building model

Remy

Remy holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of British Columbia Okanagan. Before joining Mathnasium, he worked as a university Teaching Assistant in mathematics and physics, where he discovered how rewarding it is to help students break challenging concepts into clear, manageable steps.

Remy believes that mathematics becomes much less intimidating when students understand the “why” behind each method. He adapts his explanations to each student’s learning style and focuses on helping them become confident, curious, and independent problem-solvers. His favourite part of teaching is seeing the moment when a difficult concept finally clicks for a student.

Emma

Emma is a biology student at Simon Fraser University with a strong passion for working with kids and helping them succeed in math. Through her experience as a summer camp leader, she discovered how much she enjoys creating a positive learning environment.

 As an instructor, Emma strives to be patient, knowledgable, and empathetic. She is committed to making math approachable and rewarding for every student she works with.

Jordan

Jordan is a student who enjoys math and likes helping others understand it. He focuses on breaking down difficult concepts into simple steps and explaining things in a way that actually makes sense. He’s patient, easy to work with, and aims to make math intimidating.

Jewel

Jewel is a Computer Science graduate from Columbia College with a love for both math and working with kids. Her passion for teaching maths started after high school, when she worked as a math tutor for middle school students.

Outside of math, Jewel loves crocheting! She was the president of the Crochet Club in college and currently works as a crochet instructor for children as well.

Jewel believes that with the right teacher, even a challenging subject like math can become fun and exciting. After seeing many of her friends grow up feeling intimidated by maths, she hopes to help kids build confidence, overcome their fear of numbers and equations, and maybe even discover that maths can actually be pretty fun and exciting!

Steve

Steve is an experienced instructor with a background in international travel and working with people from diverse cultures. For Steve, Mathematics is a universal language, and he wants his students to be fluent in it. He brings a patient, friendly, and practical approach to teaching, helping students build confidence and enjoy learning. He is excited to be part of the team and support students on their learning journey.

Phoebe

Phoebe is an Economics student at the University of British Columbia who enjoys mathematics and analytical problem-solving. She likes breaking down challenging problems into clear, logical steps and helping students understand not just how to solve a problem, but why it works. As an instructor, she strives to be patient, supportive, and approachable, while helping students build confidence and develop strong problem-solving skills.

Jackie

Jackie is currently studying Business and Computer Science at the University of British Columbia, where she enjoys connections with others and exploring the intersections between Business, technology, and STEM. Since high school, Jackie always had a passion of tutoring and helping kids build confidence in math and learning. Having grown up in Vancouver, she is excited to give back to her community by building a positive and rewarding math learning experience for the students.

Hieu

Hieu holds a degree in Mathematics, Computer Science and Statistics from the University of Toronto. His instructional philosophy centers on building deep conceptual understanding rather than rote memorization, with the goal of fostering both mathematical competency and lasting confidence in his students. He has a strong interest in robotics, 3D printing, and programming, and brings an analytical, detail-oriented approach to his teaching.
