Katy holds a master’s degree in Information Technology and an undergraduate degree in Computer Software Engineering. She brings over 25 years of experience teaching programming and math at the university level, as well as extensive tutoring at both the elementary and high school levels.
Katy is passionate about helping students not only catch up but excel in math using the Mathnasium Method. Her love for both math and teaching made joining the Mathnasium family a natural fit. She believes that every child can succeed in math when it’s taught in a way that makes sense.
Larry Martinek is the creator of the Mathnasium Method™, a unique approach to teaching math that focuses on understanding and number sense. With experience as a teacher, school administrator, and father to a mathematically gifted son, Larry set out more than 35 years ago to fix the gap between foundational skills and advanced math instruction.
He developed a teaching system that goes beyond memorization and encourages students to think like mathematicians. Today, his method lives on in every Mathnasium lesson, helping students gain confidence, improve skills, and discover that math can make sense.
Bryan holds a Specialized Honours Degree in Computer Science from York University. Since joining Mathnasium in 2022, he has brought a calm and collaborative teaching style that resonates with students at all levels.
He especially enjoys teaching Functions and Calculus, using his strong background to help students develop a deeper understanding. Bryan works closely with students to adapt lessons to their learning styles, helping them feel confident and capable in math.
Shelby is an Ontario-certified teacher with degrees in Biology and Geography from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University. She brings a thoughtful, individualized approach to each student interaction.
Shelby understands that math is foundational across many disciplines. She enjoys helping students overcome challenges and gain confidence by meeting them where they are and celebrating progress as it happens.
Andrew holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Toronto Metropolitan University. He has been very passionate about competitive math and coding since middle school and continues to challenge himself by solving problems on LeetCode and Codeforces.
Andrew enjoys teaching math using the Mathnasium method. He encourages students to discover their strengths and develop their own problem-solving strategies. His goal is to help students build a strong mathematical foundation that will support and empower their future academic success. He also conducts research in virtual reality and builds haptic glove models.
Ivan graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics. He is dedicated to creating a friendly, supportive, and inclusive environment where students can thrive and truly enjoy their learning experience.
