Rebecca Smith
Franchisee/Owner
Rebecca joined the Mathnasium family in 2015 and has held leadership roles across multiple centres. Her experience overseeing centre operations has allowed her to support students, families, and staff while maintaining a strong learning environment.
Her transition from Centre Director to Franchisee reflects a deep commitment to math education and student growth. Rebecca finds great fulfilment in helping children build confidence alongside strong math skills and is dedicated to making a lasting, positive impact on the families she serves.
Paul Onica
Centre Director/Manager and Social Media Director
Paul serves as Centre Director and Manager at Mathnasium Vaughan and also oversees social media. He holds a B.A. in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Anthropology from California State University, Long Beach, and brings experience in food services and retail management.
Paul enjoys working closely with students and families and is dedicated to creating a fun, safe, and enriching learning environment. Outside the centre, he enjoys sports, music from the 1980s and 1990s, and collecting sneakers.
Daniela
Lead Instructor
Daniela is in her third year of Psychology studies at York University and hopes to become a child psychologist. Her passion for working with children and interest in math make Mathnasium a natural fit.
She enjoys helping students understand new concepts and build confidence with each visit. Daniela values creating a positive experience that combines learning with encouragement. Outside of Mathnasium, she enjoys spending time with friends and family while balancing her academic studies.
Dan
Lead Instructor
Dan studied Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Guelph and has over ten years of experience working with children through camps and educational programmes. He values building trust and strong connections as the foundation of effective learning.
Dan enjoys helping students feel comfortable and confident while learning math. Outside the classroom, his interests include sports, music writing, and video games. He plans to pursue Teacher’s College with the goal of becoming a full-time math teacher.
Damen
Instructor
Damen holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and has a strong interest in mathematics and problem-solving. His curiosity about how numbers explain the world drives his enthusiasm for teaching math.
As an instructor, Damen enjoys connecting math concepts to real-life applications and helping students feel excited about learning. Outside Mathnasium, he enjoys tabletop role-playing games, reading, video games, and sharing a steady supply of puns and dad jokes.
Georgia
Instructor
Georgia is a first year student at York University, studying to receive a bachelor's degree in Psychology. She also devotes some of her time at York University to classes in mathematics. Georgia plans to combine her knowledge of psychology and mathematics to become an effective and engaging elementary or high school mathematics teacher. Her passion for mathematics began as a young child, as she admired the concept of simple counting, and expanded that into her current interest in calculus. Georgia has a strong urge to mentor other students and teach them that math is not always a scary and intimidating subject, but a fun and interesting one. Aside from her interest in teaching and mathematics, Georgia loves to listen to music, go out with her friends, and travel with her family.
Julia
Instructor
Julia is currently in her second year studying Business Administration at York University. She has developed a strong appreciation for mathematics through her work in economics, data management, and statistics. Her passion for learning and mathematics came from learning in groups,and she strives to create a positive and engaging environment for those around her. Julia loves helping others understand new concepts and finds great joy in seeing students gain confidence in their problem-solving skills. She hopes to one day find a career in data analytics where she can apply her passion for both business and mathematics. Outside of her studies, Julia enjoys baking, painting, and playing video games with friends, which allow her to express her creativity and unwind.

All students begin their Mathnasium journey with a diagnostic assessment that pinpoints what they already know and what they still need to learn.
Mathnasium of Vaughan is located at 2810 Major Mackenzie Drive W, Unit #18, in Vaughan, ON. Our centre is near Kettlemans Bagel, Dynacare Collection Centre, and Nozomi Kitchen – Maple, with accessible parking.

Mathnasium’s specially trained tutors can help students learn and master any K-12 math class or topic, from basic arithmetic through algebra, geometry, and advanced high school math.
Our learning plans are tailored to each student’s unique learning needs and style, so they can receive focused instruction and make meaningful progress toward their goals.
Our sessions are typically one hour for students from grades 1 through 8 though we do make exceptions on a case by case basis and will allow for longer sessions. High school students have the option of attending either 1 or 1.5 hour sessions if necessary.
Yes, our education department works tirelessly on staying current with the Ontario curriculum. We want our students to be aligned with this curriculum in order to not only fill gaps, but to experience daily success in the classroom.

At Mathnasium of Vaughan, we do not follow a traditional curriculum. We use our proprietary approach called the Mathnasium Method™, which combines personalized learning plans with proven teaching techniques to develop solid foundations for math mastery.
Our approach builds on each student’s existing knowledge, addressing the gaps in their understanding and introducing new concepts gradually and in a logical sequence. We work with students to expand their mathematical thinking so they can build the skills and confidence to excel in the classroom and beyond.
We do not use calculators in our centre for elementary students as we want them to understand each of the steps they are taking while doing calculations. High school students may require calculators and we allow them to use them as needed.

Students who are behind in math class receive caring, targeted instruction to rebuild foundational skills and confidence. Advanced learners benefit from enrichment opportunities that challenge their thinking and deepen their understanding.
Absolutely! We welcome students from homeschool, public, and private school backgrounds across Vaughan and surrounding communities.

Yes, our tutors will set aside time during each session to help students with their homework, ensuring they feel prepared and confident in class.
No, we do not assign additional homework. All learning takes place during sessions, so students can stay focused and engaged.
Yes! Mathnasium of Vaughan prepares students for school-based and standardized math tests, including state assessments and college entrance exams.
Our test prep includes personalized learning plans, targeted practice, and strategies to build both skills and test-taking confidence.
Yes, we allow students to bring their cell phones however, if we find they are a distraction we will address the issue with their parents. If a parent does not want their child to have their cell phone on the teaching floor, they can have their student leave it at the front desk until their session is concluded.
