At Mathnasium of California MD, our specially trained math tutors support K–12 students preparing for any math exam, whether that's an upcoming classroom test, a state assessment, or a college admissions exam like the SAT®, PSAT®, or ACT®.
Instruction takes place in a caring and fun learning environment, where tutors focus on teaching for understanding rather than test-taking shortcuts. By meeting each student at their current level and guiding them step by step, we help them build the skills and confidence to perform their best on exam day.
We teach using the Mathnasium Method™, our proprietary teaching approach that builds the deep conceptual understanding students need to succeed on any math exam.
Our tutors use proven interactive techniques alongside personalized learning plans and proprietary test prep materials. This combination helps students strengthen their mathematical reasoning and develop the problem-solving strategies that lead to real, measurable improvement.
The enrollment process begins with a diagnostic assessment that gives us a clear picture of each student's current skills, knowledge gaps, and exam goals. Using these insights, we build a personalized learning plan that focuses instruction where it will make the greatest difference.
As students progress, tutors follow the plan closely and adjust in real time, ensuring concepts are reinforced and new material is introduced at the right pace. Students move toward their exam with growing confidence and a stronger foundation in the math they need to know.

Sarah Hoffman
Center Director
Sarah holds bachelor's degrees in Mathematics, Secondary Education, and Dance Pedagogy from Wilkes University. She brings a vibrant passion for both math and teaching to the center, where she helps students explore the beauty and creativity of math. She loves making math fun, mesmerizing, and approachable for every student.
Sarah's favorite number is 16, but a better question to ask her is what is her favorite geometric solid? In which Sarah would respond "rhombicosidodecahedron!" Another fun fact about Sarah is that she is a former professional ballerina with the Ballet Theatre of Maryland. She loves to connect geometry, counting, and mathematical logic to her former career in the arts.

At Mathnasium of California MD, we believe the best exam preparation is building deep math understanding and mastery over time.
Students begin their enrollment process with a diagnostic assessment that helps us identify their current skills and knowledge gaps. From there, we create a personalized learning plan that builds math skills consistently, session by session, so students aren't starting from scratch before every test.
Our specially trained tutors work with students across any K–12 math class, from elementary math through Precalculus and beyond, reinforcing the concepts they're learning in school, filling in foundational gaps, and developing the problem-solving skills that serve them on quizzes, midterms, and final exams alike.
When a major exam is approaching, we can align instruction with the specific topics and concepts it will cover, so students walk in feeling prepared.
Yes! Mathnasium of California MD prepares students for the math portions of the MCAP.
Our tutors align instruction with the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards (MCCRS) for Mathematics to ensure students have a solid grasp of the grade-level concepts they'll encounter on the exam. We identify each student's knowledge gaps through a diagnostic assessment and build a personalized learning plan that targets the skills they need to meet and exceed grade-level expectations.
The earlier, the better. Because the MCAP measures cumulative math understanding built over the school year, students benefit most from consistent, ongoing support rather than last-minute preparation.
Ideally, students should begin working with us at the start of the school year or semester. This gives us time to identify and address any knowledge gaps, build foundational skills, and ensure students are progressing steadily toward grade-level mastery well before test day.
That said, if your student is closer to the exam, we can still make a meaningful difference. Contact us and we'll create a focused plan based on the time available.
Yes! Mathnasium of California MD prepares high school students for the math sections of the SAT®, PSAT®, and ACT®.
Our specially trained tutors use proprietary test prep materials and personalized learning plans to build the content knowledge and problem-solving strategies students need to perform their best on test day. Whether your student is taking the exam for the first time or looking to improve their score, we tailor preparation to their current skill level and target goals.
We recommend starting at least three to six months before the exam date, and earlier is always better.
College admissions math tests cover a wide range of topics, from algebra and data analysis to geometry and, on the ACT®, trigonometry. Students who begin preparation early have time to identify and close knowledge gaps, build fluency with exam-style problems, and develop the confidence that comes from sustained practice.
For students with significant gaps in foundational math skills, starting even earlier — in middle school or early high school — gives them the strongest possible foundation heading into test prep.
If your student's test date is approaching sooner, contact us and we'll build a focused plan around the time they have.
Mathnasium of California MD offers math test prep as part of a flat monthly membership fee. Pricing depends on your student's individual plan and session schedule.
For specific pricing information, please contact our center directly — we're happy to walk you through the options and find a plan that fits your student's goals and your family's needs.
The number of sessions depends on your student's current skill level, the exam they're preparing for, and how much time is available before test day.
As a general guide, most students preparing for a major exam such as the SAT®, PSAT®, or ACT® attend two sessions per week over three to six months. For state assessments or classroom exams, the timeline may be shorter, depending on the student's starting point and goals.
After the diagnostic assessment, we'll have a clear picture of what your student needs and can recommend a session schedule that gives them the best chance of success.
Yes! Students can join live, face-to-face online sessions with our specially trained tutors in California, MD, and follow the same personalized learning plan as they would in the center.
No, both formats provide the same personalized learning plan, face-to-face instruction, and caring guidance from our tutors. Many families choose a combination of in-center and online sessions for added flexibility around busy schedules and exam timelines.
