At home, this can involve asking the right kinds of questions at the right moment. For example, if your child is solving 3 × 4, you might ask, “What does the 3 mean here?” or “Can you picture what this looks like?”
This same approach works across topics. If your child is working on fractions, you might ask, “Why is \(\Large\frac{1}{2}\) the same as \(\Large\frac{2}{4}\)?” or “Can you show that with something in the kitchen?” For negative numbers, try, “What happens when we subtract a negative? Why does the result go up?”
