Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Nikolai

Instructor

Nikolai is currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington Bothell and brings his love of math and problem-solving straight into the learning center. He enjoys working with students of all ages, but Calculus is his happy place!

What Nikolai loves most about math is its predictability — the way every problem has a pathway to the answer. He also genuinely enjoys working with students because, in his words, “it’s fun!” His sessions are full of energy, curiosity, and plenty of laughs. Students adore him for the way he makes even challenging concepts feel simple, clear, and enjoyable.

He especially loves seeing that spark of wonder when something “clicks.” His favorite quote, “Practice makes perfect,” guides the way he teaches and encourages every learner.

We’re so lucky to have him on the Mathnasium of Monroe team!

Kerttu

Instructor

Kerttu is a student at Cascadia College with plans to major in Biomedical Engineering. She loves teaching Algebra and is drawn to math because, to her, “it always makes sense.”

Kerttu has a natural gift for working with kids — she’s engaging, upbeat, and knows exactly how to keep learning fun while still helping students stay focused and on track. Her patience and clear explanations make her a favorite among learners who appreciate how she breaks things down in a way that just clicks.

She’s noticed that practicing with real-life examples and revisiting concepts in different ways is what truly helps students succeed and build lasting confidence. Her favorite moment? Seeing that spark when a student suddenly gets it and everything starts to click.

We’re thrilled to have Kerttu on the Mathnasium of Monroe team!

Gabriel

Instructor

Gabriel—who also goes by Gabe—is a student at UW Bothell working toward a future in mechanical or electrical engineering. He enjoys teaching students how to graph linear equations and loves math because, to him, every problem has a solution—it’s just about figuring out how to get there.

Gabe brings a patient and laid-back energy to every session and works hard to create a space where students feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them. He believes math really starts to click when you practice concepts in different ways, and he enjoys helping students build that confidence step by step.

Outside of Mathnasium, Gabe is a musician—he plays bass in a band—and if he’s not practicing or performing, you’ll probably find him out on a hike. He’s also a big fan of Batman, runs on fruit punch Gatorade and Flamin’ Hot Doritos, and is the proud owner of three cats. If he could instantly pick up a new skill, he’d choose singing or drumming to add to his musical side.

Gabe really enjoys getting to know his students, whether that’s helping them through a tough problem or just hearing about their day. His favorite part of a session is seeing that moment when everything finally clicks.

In the future, Gabe hopes to work as a wind turbine mechanical engineer—while still keeping music a big part of his life.

We’re excited to have Gabe as part of the Mathnasium of Monroe team!

Tyron

Instructor

Tyron is a student at Everett Community College (EvCC) pursuing aerospace engineering—he’s especially interested in anything that involves “making stuff fly.” He enjoys teaching foundational topics like telling time and multiplication, and loves math because, in his words, it “describes literally everything around us.”

Tyron brings a super energetic and positive vibe to every session. Students can expect plenty of fist bumps, encouragement, and a learning environment where they feel supported every step of the way. He believes writing your work out and using hands-on methods really helps math click, and he’s all about helping students build both skills and confidence.

Outside of Mathnasium, Tyron is very active—he enjoys running, bouldering, and mountaineering. Climbing is one of his favorite hobbies, and he’s always up for a new challenge. He also keeps things simple when it comes to snacks (Snickers is a go-to), and if he could instantly learn a new skill, he’d choose speaking Chinese.

Tyron loves being part of students’ growth, whether that’s helping them understand a tough concept or cheering them on with stars and encouragement. One of his favorite parts of the job is seeing students gain confidence and develop a more positive mindset toward math.

We’re excited to have Tyron on the Mathnasium of Monroe team!

Adya

Instructor

Adya is a student at Juanita High School with plans to pursue a career in medicine, with a particular interest in microbiology. She enjoys teaching statistics and appreciates math for its clarity; there’s usually a right answer, and she enjoys helping students find it.

Adya brings a fun and supportive presence to every session, making sure students feel comfortable asking questions and trying new approaches. She believes that practicing consistently and looking at problems from different perspectives is key to building strong understanding and confidence in math.

Outside of Mathnasium, Adya is involved in a variety of activities including badminton, HOSA, mock trial, and NHS. In her free time, she enjoys playing video games, reading The Catcher in the Rye, and grabbing an iced caramel macchiato. She also loved playing Wii Sports growing up, and her friends would describe her as a “yapper,” someone who’s always ready to talk and connect with others.

Adya enjoys getting to know her students and helping them stay motivated, especially when they reach milestones like passing a mastery check. She hopes to one day become a doctor and make a meaningful impact in the medical field.

We’re excited to have Adya as part of the Mathnasium of Monroe team!
