  • Why do you require an assessment for enrollment?

Each student begins their Mathnasium journey with a diagnostic assessment. This allows us to identify their current skill level, learning gaps, and goals, so we can create a learning plan tailored to their individual needs.

  • How do you teach math? What curriculum do you use?

At Mathnasium of Northeast Portland, we use the Mathnasium Method™, a proprietary approach that combines personalized learning plans with proven teaching techniques to build lasting understanding and confidence in math.

Our tutors build on what students already know, introduce new concepts step by step, and guide them toward mastery.

  • Do you work with advanced students or with students who are struggling with math?

Yes! We serve students of all skill levels, whether they are looking to catch up, keep up, or get ahead on their math journey.

Students who are behind in math class receive personalized support in a caring environment to rebuild foundational skills and confidence. Advanced students benefit from enrichment programs that challenge them and encourage deeper thinking.

  • Do you work with homeschooled students in Portland?

Absolutely! We support homeschooled students as well as those attending public or private schools across Northeast Portland and surrounding communities.

  • Do you help students with their math homework, quizzes, and tests?

Our schoolwork policy is individually tailored to each student, and the first step in determining this is through our free assessment. We pride ourselves in helping students find independent success in math by addressing the root cause of why schoolwork is an issue: weak fundamental skills.

If we find that a student has gaps in their knowledge, we make rebuilding these skills a priority. When a student's math foundations are strengthened to the point where they can grasp the concepts taught in their math class, only then do we allow students to work on schoolwork for a portion of their Mathnasium sessions.

If we provide help on schoolwork prematurely, it would create a sense of dependence, not independence, within a student. Nor would it help them find confidence in math. Not a winning strategy!

Our Mathnasium Method has proven successful with thousands of students over the 10+ years we've served our communities. We'd love to help your student achieve "Confidence in Math, Confidence in Life!". Click the button above to book your free assessment today!

  • Does Mathnasium assign homework to students?

No, all learning happens during sessions at the center. We don’t assign additional homework, so students can stay focused and productive during their time with us.

  • Does Mathnasium of Northeast Portland prepare students for math on standardized tests?

Yes! Mathnasium of Northeast Portland prepares students for a range of standardized and school-based math tests, including state assessments, SAT®, and ACT®.

Our preparation includes personalized learning plans, targeted practice, and strategies to build math skills and test-taking confidence.
