Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Vincent

Lead Instructor

Vincent is a senior at the University of California San Diego pursuing a degree in Human Biology. He’s been with Mathnasium since 2021 and also works as a teaching assistant at UCSD. He’s passionate about helping students grow and believes in the importance of strong math foundations.

Fazal brings a strong STEM background to his role at Mathnasium. Originally from Afghanistan, he studied engineering and applied his skills through NGO work supporting refugees. In San Diego, he continued his education in computer science.

Fazal is passionate about helping students make sense of math through effective strategies and enjoys learning alongside them. He finds joy in the center’s friendly environment and values contributing to student success.

Scott

Scott graduated from State University of New York with a major in Physics and a minor in Math. He enjoys teaching Astrocamp in the summer and most recently moved to sunny San Diego to pursue his MS in education.

He has an interest in all things 'nerdy' from programming arduino robots to find high intensity of light and high concentration of gasses to Dungeons & Dragons. He may also surprise you with his amazing tenor voice if you catch him singing to songs out loud.

Scott has a passion for physics, math, and education and he is a huge asset to our team.

Nate

Nate is an undergraduate student at San Diego State University, double majoring in Applied Mathematics and Data Science. Alongside his studies, he works as a research assistant at SDSU, contributing to projects in mathematical and computational sciences. Sofia

Instructor

Sofia enjoys working with children and has much experience as the eldest of four girls. She discovered her love for math early on - after seeing friends struggle, she dedicated her efforts to tutoring. She decided she would help change the effect math can have on a students' perception of what they can and cannot do. She didn't like the way one comment or test score could affect a students' entire outlook on math. She is currently helping us test our SAT/ACT prep courses.

In her free time she likes to play violin, compete in gymnastics, and volunteer at animal shelters. Her kindness, patience, and passion for service make her truly stand out.

Oscar

Instructor

Oscar has a long history with math. From an early age he realized that he had a gift for understanding and teaching others. This led him to one of the few full scholarships at the UNI (National University of Engineering) in Peru - the top university for engineers in Peru. He has a Bachelors of Science in Systems Engineering, a MS in Management Information Systems, and an MS in Finance. His career has spanned many high-level positions at IBM, Burger King Corp., and Miami Dade County.

As a way to give back, he has also held several university-level positions as a professor, teaching the youth in Peru as well as here in the United States. He enjoys making a difference in the lives of others and sparking a joy for math when his students make connections on concepts.

Joanna

Instructor

Joanna is an undergraduate at Washington University majoring in Applied Mathematics. When she’s not at Mathnasium, Joanna enjoys challenging sports of all kinds. Little known fact - she is a top level 10 gymnast and has competed at the National level. She also speaks Spanish and Mandarin.

Although she attended rigorous and prestigious schools, she understands the importance of balancing a schedule and is excellent with helping students adapt to new environments. Her caring and kind nature really help keep students focused and interested in math.

Samantha

Instructor

Samantha is an undergraduate student at the University of California San Diego, double majoring in Applied Mathematics and Cognitive Science, with a minor in Mathematics Education.

Outside of Mathnasium, she enjoys hiking, exploring new places, playing the piano, reading, and spending time with family and friends. She is especially passionate about helping students build their confidence in math and wants to share her love of the subject with students.

Amber
