What do you like most about learning?
What I like most about learning is discovering new ideas and being able to apply them to my everyday life. I especially enjoy making connections between math and the real world. Seeing math show up in practical, meaningful ways really ignites my love of numbers and makes learning exciting!
What is the biggest impact you’ve had on a student’s ability to become proficient in math?
I am always encouraging students and reminding them that learning is a process. Even if they don’t know something yet, they all have so much potential. I encourage students to make mistakes because mistakes are an important part of growth, which helps students build confidence, and I help them see that everyone is a mathematician because math shows up in our everyday lives.
What type of math do you enjoy teaching most?
Pre-K and middle school math
How do you make learning math fun for students?
I make learning fun by showing students that mistakes are okay, and even encouraged! I make mistakes myself and don’t shy away from modeling that. I also maintain a positive attitude and show my students that they are capable. Reminding them that they are working hard and should be proud of themselves and their accomplishments helps create a positive, encouraging learning environment.

What do you like most about learning?
I like to understand. The more I can learn, the more I can fit a self-consistent narrative to the universe, the happier I am!
What is the biggest impact you’ve had on a student’s ability to become proficient in math?
I’ve seen a log of specific mathematical conceptual gains for all ages K -> College. I think the best thing is when kids increase their belief in logic. In principle, the world is understandable. Careful, rigorous thought can lead us to more understanding and better outcomes.
What type of math do you enjoy teaching most?
All of it! Especially when I can concretely demonstrate it’s usefulness to students.
How do you make learning math fun for students?
I try to make it beneficial for students. Simultaneously, I have fun! Sometimes students have fun with that combination.

I have not formally taught math prior to Mathnasium. I did mentor my three children in math as I have a science background. I also mentored many co-workers at Abbott/Abbvie on scientific research design that is heavily math focused.
What do you like most about learning?
I love learning when it explains topics, expands my understanding and makes problem-solving faster.
What is the biggest impact you’ve had on a student’s ability to become proficient in math?
The biggest impact is when the student understands why calculations work. I enjoy when they understand place value and fractions, fractions and percentages, and word problem set-ups. When they understand, their confidence builds.
What type of math do you enjoy teaching most?
I enjoy teaching word problems the most followed by conversion of fractions to percentages and decimals. A good understanding sets the student up for more challenging math.
How do you make learning math fun for students?
I have a positive attitude about math and try to incorporate examples, such as shopping, into problems. I try to be as encouraging as I can, especially when I ask them to self-correct a wrong answer.

I like having a deeper understanding of concepts that I didn’t understand in the past.
What is the biggest impact you’ve had on a student’s ability to become proficient in math?
A lot of the students I have instructed have gone on to demonstrate their understanding of math concepts by passing mastery checks and leveling up.
What type of math do you enjoy teaching most?
I enjoy teaching pre-algebra or middle school math.

I let them spin the wheel and add tallies to the Mastery Check Challenge poster.

I like the feeling of accomplishment when I use knowledge I have gained and apply it to solve problems. Also, I enjoy seeing my growth in a subject as I learn it.

The biggest impact I had on students’ abilities in math is helping them develop a line of reasoning by asking questions that guide their thinking.

I give students words of encouragement and use humor to keep students feeling positive about their work.

My favorite part about learning is being able to use what I’ve learned in the real world.

The biggest impact I’ve had is fulfilling students’ interests in math. When a student genuinely wants to learn a new topic, even when it’s outside the curriculum, I will always teach it to them.

I enjoy teaching Algebra and Statistics.

I make learning math fun for students by providing real world applications of the topics they’re learning. I also keep a positive attitude and try my best to match their energy.

I help my little brother refine his skills in the math he learns in school and practice different topics.

I enjoy teaching Algebra and fractions.
How do you make learning math fun for students?
I try to connect with them as much as possible and use different analogies or drawings to make them less bored.
