Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Brian

Sr. Instructor

Brian obtained his PhD in Mathematics from Oregon State University and has worked in education and tutoring for over a decade. His structured, thorough approach is a great fit for both students who are struggling and need support and those who are ahead and working to grasp more complex topics than they see in school. If he is not at Mathnasium, you may find him hiking the PNW or working in his garden!

Kai

Assistant Center Director

Kai has a Bachelor's in Communications from the University of Washington, and has worked in customer service and administrative roles. Kai joined Mathnasium in 2023 and plays a key role in ensuring students receive the right materials and experience during their sessions!

Ilia

Instructor

Ilia brings decades of teaching experience and a rich academic background to Mathnasium. He has taught all levels of math and computer science, including courses at Portland Community College. Ilia holds three undergraduate degrees: in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Electrical Engineering. His deep understanding of mathematical concepts and instructional strategies makes him a valuable resource for students at every level. Ilia is committed to helping students not only succeed in math but also enjoy the process of learning and discovery.

Joy

Sr. Instructor

Joy holds a Bachelor's in Biochemistry and a Master’s in Education from Seattle Pacific University. With more than eight years of tutoring experience in Chemistry, Biology, and Genetics, she brings a strong interdisciplinary approach to teaching. She has also worked as a paraeducator in the Lake Washington School District, supporting students across a variety of needs. Joy loves showing students that math can be engaging and fun, and she celebrates each "aha" moment along the way. Outside of Mathnasium, she volunteers as a forest steward with the Green Kirkland Partnership.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.
