Annie graduated from USC with a master degree of education and she also held a bachelor degree double major in psychology and educational science from UC, Irvine. She've gained her passion working with students from her hands-on experience of being an ESL instructor in public school elementary settings and doing intern as a multi-subject teacher in a private trilingual immersion school. She loves seeing her students grow more confident in their academic abilities, and she understands that every learner brings unique strengths to the classroom. Outside of working, she enjoys rock climbing, skiing, and travelling around. Annie is excited to share her passion for math and empower learners of all ages to excel at Mathnasium.
Sanika Patwardhan
Lead Instructor
Sanika is a second-year Business Administration student at UC Irvine with a strong passion for teaching and helping students build confidence in math. She has several years of math tutoring experience and is especially loved by students for her clear, patient explanations and her ability to make challenging concepts feel approachable. Sanika excelled academically in high school, graduating with a 4.6 GPA and completing nine AP courses, including AP Calculus AB. She continued her advanced math studies at UCI with Single Variable Calculus II. Her strong foundation allows her to break down complex ideas in a way that is logical, relatable, and easy to understand.
Beyond academics, Sanika has been deeply involved in mentoring and leadership roles—tutoring at Heritage Park Library, serving as a Junior Instructor in martial arts, and holding a board position in a school club. She also developed strong organizational and creative skills as the Editor of her high school’s Yearbook team. She believes math is a universal language that connects people, and she finds genuine joy in helping students grow, succeed, and discover that math can be both understandable and enjoyable.
Rajit Swarup
Lead Instructor
Rajit is a Computer Science major with aspirations of becoming a Cyber Security professional. He has been part of our Mathnasium family since 2015 — first as a dedicated mathlete, and now as an experienced instructor and Core Team member.
With over four years of math tutoring experience, Rajit brings a blend of strong mathematical understanding, patience, and humor that students truly enjoy. He has a special talent for making math feel easier and more fun, helping students break through challenges with confidence. Rajit believes that many students dislike math simply because it hasn’t been explained in a way that makes sense to them. His goal is to guide them toward understanding problems deeply, learning from mistakes, and discovering that math can be enjoyable.
Outside the center, Rajit played water polo throughout high school and has taught children how to swim. In his free time, he enjoys drawing both in his sketchbook and on his digital tablet.
Justin Nguyen
Lead Instructor
Justin is a second-year Aerospace Engineering student at UCI with a long-standing strength and passion for mathematics. Excelling in math from a young age, Justin has built a solid foundation through advanced coursework and years of helping peers and younger students. His clear explanations and patient teaching style make him a strong mentor for students who need support or a confidence boost in math.
Justin joined Mathnasium because he genuinely enjoys the moment when a concept “clicks” for a student. He finds it rewarding to help students understand challenging problems, build stronger mathematical thinking, and develop a greater appreciation for the subject.
Beyond math, Justin has a deep interest in geography, navigation, transportation systems, traffic flow, and airport design—areas that inspire his future goal of becoming an air traffic controller. In his free time, he enjoys hanging out with friends, exploring new places, watching TV shows, and diving into articles and videos related to his favorite topics.
Skyland Kanthatham
Lead Instructor
Skyland is a second-year student at IVC pursuing a degree in Environmental Science and working toward his goal of becoming a high school math teacher. He is actively preparing to earn his teaching credential and has developed a strong passion for helping students understand and enjoy mathematics.
With more than three years of math tutoring and classroom experience, Skyland has worked with a wide range of learners—supporting younger classmates, leading peer study groups, and assisting in structured instructional settings. His calm, patient teaching style and clear explanations make him especially effective at helping students build confidence and master challenging concepts.
Outside of academics, Skyland enjoys staying active by going to the gym and playing pickleball.
Ethan Arakaki
Instructor
Ethan is a first-year student at IVC pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His long-standing interest in designing and building—from middle school projects to advanced engineering coursework—naturally led him to develop strong problem-solving skills and a deep appreciation for mathematics.
Ethan brings valuable STEM experience to Mathnasium, including two years of FIRST Robotics and four years of Computer-Aided Design (CAD). These experiences strengthened his analytical thinking, spatial reasoning, and ability to break down complex problems, skills he now uses to help students understand math more intuitively. His engineering background allows him to connect mathematical concepts to real-world applications, making learning more engaging and meaningful for students.
Ethan is passionate about helping students build confidence, especially those who benefit from clear, step-by-step explanations and hands-on approaches. In his free time, he enjoys playing Minecraft and exploring creative projects that combine math, design, and engineering.

At Mathnasium of University Irvine, we believe the best exam preparation is building deep math understanding and mastery over time.
Students begin their enrollment process with a diagnostic assessment that helps us identify their current skills and knowledge gaps. From there, we create a personalized learning plan that builds math skills consistently, session by session, so students aren't starting from scratch before every test.
Our specially trained tutors work with students across any K-12 math class, from elementary math through Precalculus and beyond, reinforcing the concepts they're learning in school, filling in foundational gaps, and developing the problem-solving skills that serve them on quizzes, midterms, and final exams alike.
When a major exam is approaching, we can align instruction with the specific topics and concepts it will cover, so students walk in feeling prepared.
Yes! Mathnasium of University Irvine prepares students for the math portions of the CAASPP, including the Smarter Balanced summative assessments.
Our tutors align instruction with the California Common Core State Standards for Mathematics to ensure students have a solid grasp of the grade-level concepts they'll encounter on the exam. We identify each student's knowledge gaps through a diagnostic assessment and build a personalized learning plan that targets the skills they need to meet and exceed grade-level expectations.
The earlier, the better. Because the CAASPP measures cumulative math understanding built over the school year, students benefit most from consistent, ongoing support rather than last-minute preparation.
Ideally, students should begin working with us at the start of the school year or semester. This gives us time to identify and address any knowledge gaps, build foundational skills, and ensure students are progressing steadily toward grade-level mastery well before test day.
That said, if your student is closer to the exam, we can still make a meaningful difference. Contact us and we'll create a focused plan based on the time available.
Yes! Mathnasium of University Irvine prepares high school students for the math sections of the SAT®, PSAT®, and ACT®.
Our specially trained tutors use proprietary test prep materials and personalized learning plans to build the content knowledge and problem-solving strategies students need to perform their best on test day. Whether your student is taking the exam for the first time or looking to improve their score, we tailor preparation to their current skill level and target goals.
We recommend starting at least three to six months before the exam date, and earlier is always better.
College admissions math tests cover a wide range of topics, from algebra and data analysis to geometry and, on the ACT®, trigonometry. Students who begin preparation early have time to identify and close knowledge gaps, build fluency with exam-style problems, and develop the confidence that comes from sustained practice.
For students with significant gaps in foundational math skills, starting even earlier, in middle school or early high school, gives them the strongest possible foundation heading into test prep.
If your student's test date is approaching sooner, contact us and we'll build a focused plan around the time they have.
Mathnasium of University Irvine offers math test prep as part of a flat monthly membership fee. Pricing depends on your student's individual plan and session schedule.
For specific pricing information, please contact us at [email protected].
We're happy to walk you through the options and find a plan that fits your student's goals and your family's needs.
The number of sessions depends on your student's current skill level, the exam they're preparing for, and how much time is available before test day.
As a general guide, most students preparing for a major exam such as the SAT®, PSAT®, or ACT® attend two sessions per week over three to six months. For state assessments or classroom exams, the timeline may be shorter, depending on the student's starting point and goals.
After the diagnostic assessment, we'll have a clear picture of what your student needs and can recommend a session schedule that gives them the best chance of success.
Yes! Students can join live, face-to-face online sessions with our specially trained tutors in Irvine and follow the same personalized learning plan as they would in the center.
No, both formats provide the same personalized learning plan, face-to-face instruction, and caring guidance from our tutors. Many families choose a combination of in-center and online sessions for added flexibility around busy schedules and exam timelines.
Yes. Our tutors understand the California Common Core State Standards for Mathematics and the expectations of local schools in University Park, Irvine, and surrounding communities.
When appropriate, we align personalized learning plans with state standards and classroom goals to support both school performance and exam preparation.
Getting started is easy! Contact us or schedule a free assessment online.
During the assessment, we'll identify your student's current skill level, knowledge gaps, and exam goals, and use those insights to build their personalized learning plan.
