Trigonometry is a branch of mathematics that focuses on triangles, especially right triangles, and the relationships between their angles and sides. It helps us figure out unknown measurements using ratios called sine, cosine, and tangent.
For example, if we know one angle and one side of a right triangle, trigonometry helps us find the missing sides or other angles. This is super helpful in real life when building ramps, measuring heights, or designing video games!

When Do Students Learn About Trigonometry?
Students begin learning the building blocks of trigonometry through angle measurement and triangle properties in middle school. Full trigonometric functions and applications typically appear in high school.

Students explore angles in triangles, especially right triangles, and begin to recognize the patterns in their sides and angles.
Grades 9+ – Learning Trigonometric Functions
Students learn how to use sine, cosine, and tangent to solve for missing sides and angles in right triangles and apply them in real-world and advanced math problems.
